How to Create Baby’s First Easter Basket for Under $10

This year is Little Man’s very first Easter! I’m so excited to take him to sunrise service at our church and spend time with our family and help him look for eggs. And of course, present him with his own Easter basket! Today, I’m sharing how to create baby’s first Easter basket for under $10.

Easter baskets were a super fun tradition in my house growing up and I want to pass on the excitement to our son. But things are a little tight for us this year, as I just left my job and we are living on one income. Since I refuse to forgo the Easter basket tradition, I have to get creative this year.

Budget-friendly doesn’t mean cheap

As much as I want to splurge on a super cute, personalized, monogrammed Easter basket for my little angel, it’s just not in the cards for us this year. But that doesn’t mean his basket has to be cheap-looking. There are plenty of fantastic ways to make a budget-friendly Easter basket. Even though everything I found came from the dollar store, it’s still super cute.

How I made my baby’s first Easter basket for under $10

The basket

Obviously, the first step is to find the basket itself. This one is about eight inches in diameter and around six inches deep. Perfect for my little baby! Plus, he can get some use out of it for a few years until we upgrade to a bigger one.

The filling

Now normally, I would buy some of that plastic-y green “grass” to fill the bottom of the basket. But honestly, why? It’s literally just going to make a mess and get thrown away. So instead, I got a little Easter-colored blanket to line the bottom of the basket. Little Man can snuggle with it, and I don’t have to feel bad for spending money on something that’s going to end up in next week’s trash.

The fun stuff

Now, what can you put in a baby’s first Easter basket for under $10? Babies are a little challenging to shop for. Toddlers are a little easier, but a baby can’t eat anything, so treats are out. He can’t do crafts yet, so that’s out, too. So since my little love really isn’t going to remember it anyway, I decided to take this opportunity to fill his basket with things he needs.

Sockies

First, I got him some cute little sockies. It’s not like we don’t have five thousand of them laying around the house, but I can’t even manage to find the mates to my own socks, let alone teeny tiny baby socks. So he has matching sockies for Resurrection Sunday. Score!

Then, I added a cute little stuffed bunny. I know I may regret it later, as I’ve heard that kids’ stuffed animals magically multiply until you feel like you’re overrun. But it’s his first Easter after all! So in the basket the bunny goes.

Teething toy

Next, I got him an inexpensive teething toy, since judging by the amount of drool that’s happening around our house, we are going to need it sooner rather than later. This one has some little noise-makers and different textures. It was only a dollar and he’ll get some good use out of it.

Bath accessories

I also found some cute bath stuff: a little froggy microfiber washcloth and some rubber duckies. He’s enjoying bath time a lot more now and I figured it’s time to add in some fun elements.

And of course I couldn’t resist adding some bubbles. Babies are fascinated with bubbles, and I thought it would be a fun Easter activity for Little Man and his daddy. This actually came in a pack of three, but I only used one in the basket.

Cross wall decoration

Finally, I found a gorgeous cross wall hanging for his room. He’s too young to understand right now, but I want him to know from an early age what Easter is all about and how much Jesus loves his precious baby heart. The wall hanging was a little too wide to fit in the basket, but I wasn’t about to leave it out.

So there you have it! Baby’s first Easter basket for under $10—$9.68 to be exact, including tax. While it wasn’t the white wicker, monogrammed, eighteen-inch beauty I envisioned, I’d say it will do nicely. Maybe in a few years I’ll be able to splurge, but for right now, I feel confident he’ll enjoy it.

And of course, the basket isn’t what Easter is all about anyways. I’m looking forward to my husband reading about our Savior’s resurrection to my son and me on Easter morning, attending sunrise service, and grilling with my family in the afternoon.
