Alright mama, you have your first Mother’s Day under your belt, now it’s your husband’s turn in the spotlight. A dad’s first Father’s Day is incredibly special, and it’s important he knows how much you and your baby appreciate him. So here are some Father’s Day gift ideas to spark your gift-giving creativity for your hubby’s first Father’s Day.
Even though he didn’t give birth this past year, he’s put in his fair share of parent duties: middle-of-the-night diaper changes or feedings, pulling extra weight with household chores and cooking, standing by you while you have hormone-fueled postpartum meltdowns, and so much more.
Check out these Father’s Day gift ideas and get to shoppin’!
1. Handwritten letters from you and your baby
This one is super easy and very cost-effective. A letter from you expressing your love and appreciation for your parenting partner is sure to make him smile, especially if he’s been feeling a little left-out since the new baby arrived. As a new mom, it’s hard to focus on anything other than the tiny human who is dependent on your for everything, so take a few moments to re-prioritize and give your hubby the respect and attention he deserves.
You can also write a letter to daddy as if it’s from your baby. This will be a treasure for years to come and you can even purchase an inexpensive frame for him to display at home or at the office. Bonus points if you sign it with baby’s hand or footprints.
2. Personalized items
I am a huge fan of personalized gifts. There’s just something about receiving an item with your name or monogram on it that makes it so special. My hubby isn’t as into it as I am, but perhaps yours is. Some fun personalized Father’s Day gift ideas include key chains, pocket knives, coffee mugs, pint glasses, t-shirts, watches, and shaving kits. There are tons of shops on Etsy that provide customization for whatever item you wish to purchase. My hubby loves watches, so a few years ago, I got him a cool watch case almost exactly like this one with his first initial etched on the glass.
If you don’t want to put his name on the item, you can also customize it with: “Dad: Established 2018,” “Daddy: Rockin’ It Since 2018,” etc.
3. A Bible
I actually did this one for my husband the year we found out we were pregnant. Our little one wasn’t born yet, but I knew my husband was going to be an amazing, godly father. I got him a beautiful black leather Bible that he could read to and teach our baby from in years to come.
4. “Dad: Every Boy’s First Hero, Every Daughter’s First Love”
I absolutely love this quote. It can go on so many things! And the cool thing is you can customize it for whichever is applicable. For example, if I use it for something from Little Man, I would write: “Dad: Every Boy’s First Hero.” It’s a plus if your husband is a first-responder.
5. Punny t-shirts
How could I leave this off a Father’s Day gift ideas list? Dad joke t-shirts are basically a rite of passage to fatherhood, and there are a ton of funny ones on Amazon. This world’s greatest shirt is my current favorite because my husband would think it’s hilarious.
6. Journal and Dad Devotional
My husband is not a journal guy. However, he’s recently been trying to get into it to take his Bible study to the next level. Journals for guys are a little hard to find; most of them are pretty and flowery and not something he would appreciate. This one is cool because it reminds the user to be “strong and courageous.”
There are so many great parenting study books and devotions out there. This one by Meg Meeker is about learning to be a hero to your kids. My husband has this book and I’ve thumbed through it, and it’s really good. Books like this are great for first-time dads because, just like first-time moms, they are trying to figure everything out and get a hang of this parenting thing.
7. Nap time
Oh, nap time. You’ll notice that I also mentioned a nap as a great gift for mama’s first Mother’s Day as well. That’s because new parents are essentially sleep-deprived zombies for the first year of their child’s life. My husband adored naps even before he was a dad, so setting aside some time for a Father’s Day nap is the perfect gift for him.
Alright mama, it’s time to get to work! As the leader of your family, your husband deserves to know how much you and your baby appreciate all he does. And remember, it’s not about what the gift is, but the thought behind it that counts. Happy hunting!
